Preparations are once again underway for the Wellington Sculpture Trust visit to Gibbs Farm on the Kaipara Harbour. The trip is always a highlight on our calendar—we’re excited to once again have this award-winning sculpture park to ourselves for a full day.
An impressive new sculpture has been installed since our last visit in early 2017. Jacobs Ladder by Gerry Judah measures 34 metres high and is made entirely out of square-sectioned steel tube. The work weighs 46 tonnes and consists of 480 lengths of steel, stacked one on top of each other, twisting from the ground upwards toward the sky. Each layer is a slightly different in length and size, shifted and rotated to produce a graceful, curving shape.
Our trip to Gibbs Farm will take place on Friday 22 March 2019, and you have until Friday 8 February to book your place on the bus. Non-members are welcome to join us on this trip so if you know someone who has always wanted to visit the Farm please feel free to send them our way. The ticket price of $150 includes entry to the park, as well as transport from Central Auckland, a gourmet picnic lunch and refreshments. The Trust would appreciate a tax-creditable donation of $100.
