Parking Day Wellington 2018 call for applications

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

Once again, the Wellington Sculpture Trust, in association with the Wellington City Council and with support from Creative Communities, is organising a Wellington version of PARK(ing) Day on Friday 9 March 2018.

We are seeking applications from people or groups who would like to take over an inner city car park for this day.

Applications are due by Sunday 28 January 2018.

Please download this PDF for more information.

You can see more information, as well as images from the 2017 PARK(ing) Day on our website http://www.sculpture.org.nz/news-and-events/park(ing)-day-wellington-10317

This year we have secured some Creative Communities funding, which has been provided to help us encourage broader and more diverse participation (including from schools) and enhanced levels of engagement with the public on the day.

Background
Usually held in the northern hemisphere in September, PARK(ing) Day is an annual open-source global event where citizens, artists and designers collaborate temporarily to transform metered parking spaces into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public places. The mission of PARK(ing) Day is to call attention to the need for more urban open space, to generate critical debate around how public space is used, created and allocated, and to improve the quality of urban human habitat … at least until the meter runs out!
We have changed our PARK(ing) Days to March when the weather is better.
The original PARK(ing) Day concept was initiated by Rebar, www.rebargroup.org
