The Wellington Sculpture Trust is a registered charitable trust dependent for all its revenue on the grants, donations and sponsorships provided by its supporters.

The scope of this support has grown in recent years as more of Wellington’s citizens appreciate the value of public art in the city, and businesses recognise the long term benefits from an association with our sculptures.

Sculptures become a part of our urban identity. They are an investment in lifestyle and city branding. Ferns in particular has become an icon which is used to promote Wellington in its many ventures.

For a sponsor:

Sculpture provides an opportunity for a lasting investment in the arts field and in an organisation’s own branding. The Trust has a history of successful ventures which have enduring impact, and professional arrangements to ensure proper long-term care of works.

The focus on the sculpture and careful selection of works and sites ensures high visibility and a broad audience. Public art tends to provoke discussion and comment, which also contributes to widespread exposure.

All projects offer opportunity for national and international recognition.

How can you help?

These are many opportunities for business donations and sponsorships. Some sponsorships are for services and goods on an ongoing basis (such as public relations, lighting); others are contributions to specific sculptures and projects. The Trust always has current and planned projects for which it is fundraising.

Sponsorship and Recognition

The Trust seeks to attract corporate partners to projects which offer a compatibility of interest. An example is Meridian Energy’s highly successful sponsorship of a series of wind sculptureson the main route from the airport to the city. The company is the owner of the Brooklyn wind turbine and the sponsorship of the Meridian Energy Great Wellington Wind Sculpture Series reflects the essence of their business.

There are many options for recognition of support. These include bronze plaques to be placed near sculptures, the opportunity to use sculpture images in published corporate material, recognition in published Trust material including our brochure, news bulletin and this website; rights to sculpture sites for functions; and naming rights where appropriate.

The collaborative nature of our ventures is important. The backing of publicly accountable groups such as Wellington City Council and Wellington Waterfront Ltd encourages others to be involved, and vice versa. The end result is public art that reflects and inspires the community in which it exists. Ownership and enjoyment is collective.
